DEPARTMENT: History STARTING DATE: Fall Term 2026 TIMELINE: Screening of applications begins immediately and continues until position is filled.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach the equivalent of seven undergraduate courses (three in Fall term, three in Winter term, and one in May term) from among the following: American history surveys, historical methods, historiography, upper-division American history courses, and public and digital history. The successful candidate will also have an interest in and ability to teach non-major and general education courses. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the department’s commitment to student recruitment and retention as well as provide service and conduct research as outlined in the faculty handbook.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Doctorate in history (ABD will be considered) with the ability to teach American history, public and digital history, historical methods, and either women’s or African American history. A successful candidate will support the college’s mission and the department’s commitment to teacher education and public history. Preferred: Earned doctorate by the start date, the ability to teach both women’s history and African American history, and successful college-level teaching experience. Preference given to candidates with the ability to contribute to the department’s commitment to use AI as a tool in the study and understanding of the past. Desirable: Knowledge and/or experience with GIS is desired. Experience in student recruitment and retention is also highly desirable.
