Salary Range: Associate Professor: $415,000 – $540,028 per year; Professor: $457,000 – $596,000 per year. The appointee will also be eligible for productivity and academic incentives.
The University of Chicago’s Department of Radiology invites applications for Section Chief of Neuroradiology at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor on the School of Medicine track. This is a unique leadership opportunity to shape the future of neuroimaging at a world-class academic institution, as we launch Chicago’s first freestanding facility dedicated solely to cancer care and research—an $815 million state-of-the-art cancer center opening in 2027. The incoming Section Chief will play a leading role in defining the service line and developing it into a national hub for innovation and clinical excellence.
The Section Chief will have the opportunity to:
Build and lead a high-performing clinical team within a supportive and collegial department.
Shape the strategic direction of neuroradiology across UChicago Medicine’s expanding clinical enterprise, including regional sites and community partnerships.
Drive clinical innovation in advanced neuroimaging, including stroke imaging, functional and quantitative MRI, and image-guided spine and head & neck procedures, supported by state-of-the-art technology and strong institutional investment.
Partner closely with neurointerventional, neurology, and neurosurgery teams to further integrate imaging into complex care pathways and expand collaborative clinical programs.
Collaborate with internationally recognized programs in stroke, neuro-oncology, epilepsy, and neurodegenerative disease to advance multidisciplinary clinical and research initiatives.
Leverage strong institutional resources in data science and artificial intelligence to develop and implement advanced imaging analytics and quantitative imaging programs.
Recruit, mentor, and develop faculty while building subspecialty expertise across key areas of neuroradiology.
Integrate into a culture of shared discovery alongside our PhD Basic Sciences members.
Enhance education and mentorship in one of the nation’s premier radiology training programs, with opportunities to shape curricula and foster trainee development.
The Section Chief will participate in strategic planning, budgeting, faculty recruitment, and operational oversight for the Section; nurture relationships with referring providers; and contribute to institutional outreach. Clinical responsibilities include the full spectrum of neuroradiology, including brain, spine, and head & neck imaging. Protected administrative time is provided to support leadership activities. Weekly remote reading days are available, and the position includes teaching, supervision of trainees, and scholarly activity.
Academic rank and compensation are dependent upon qualifications. Opportunities to earn additional income through a productivity-based incentive model are readily available.
