The Community College of Rhode Island seeks an innovative, collaborative, and student-centered librarian to serve as our new AI & Digital Literacy Librarian at the Newport Campus. The CCRI Library serves students, faculty, and staff at four campus locations (Lincoln, Newport, Providence, and Warwick). This is a full-time, 12-month calendar-year, faculty position that will be hired in the rank of Assistant Professor.
As the sole librarian serving the campus, this position offers a unique opportunity to shape library services, build meaningful campus partnerships, and lead initiatives that support digital literacy, information fluency, and responsible engagement with artificial intelligence.
The CCRI Library is committed to advancing equitable access to technology and information, fostering critical thinking and digital fluency, and supporting student success in an evolving educational landscape. The AI & Digital Literacy Librarian will play a key role in helping students, faculty, and staff thoughtfully and ethically engage with AI tools, digital resources, and information systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
AI & Digital Literacy Leadership
Lead library initiatives related to AI literacy, digital literacy, and emerging educational technologies.
Develop instruction, workshops, outreach, assessments, and learning resources focused on critical, ethical, and effective use of AI
Collaborate with Library faculty and campus partners to support curriculum and instruction aligned with institutional learning outcomes and frameworks such as the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
Promote inclusive, accessible, and equitable approaches to digital learning and technology use.
Campus Collaboration & Student Support
Serve as the primary Librarian for the Newport Campus and maintain an active presence in campus life.
Partner with the Center for Teaching Excellence, Division of Online Learning, college governance committees and other departments to integrate information literacy, AI literacy, and digital fluency into teaching and learning initiatives.
Build partnerships with faculty, staff, student organizations, and campus departments to support student learning and engagement.
Provide research assistance and reference services in person and through virtual platforms.
Teach information literacy sessions using inclusive, student-centered practices.
Serve as a liaison to assigned academic department(s), including support for program accreditations.
Represent the Library at orientations, outreach events, and college-wide initiatives.
Library Operations & Professional Service
Oversee day-to-day operations of the Newport Campus Library, including:
Providing research assistance and reference services in person and through virtual platforms.
Teaching information literacy and library instruction sessions using student-centered and inclusive practices.
Reviewing and evaluating materials for inclusion in the collection.
Overseeing management of access services
Hire, train, and supervise paraprofessional staff and student employees.
Manage scheduling, timekeeping, budgeting, and operational workflows.
Collaborate with librarians and staff across all CCRI campuses.
Participate in departmental, college-wide, and consortium committees and initiatives.
Contribute to library planning, assessment, policy development, and continuous improvement efforts.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Master?s degree in library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
Minimum of two (2) years of professional library experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of AI tools, digital literacy concepts, and emerging educational technologies.
Understanding of AI technologies, including large language models, prompt generation, limitations, and training bias.
Experience providing instruction, research support, or educational programming.
Familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
Experience with electronic information resources, online databases, and web-based research tools.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS).
Supervisory experience.
Experience in troubleshooting hardware/software issues and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, service-oriented environment.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, accessibility, and supporting diverse learners and communities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Academic library experience
Reference and library instruction experience in an academic library setting.
Experience with OCLC WMS
Experience developing programming related to AI literacy, media literacy, or digital citizenship.
Experience supporting faculty use of generative AI and emerging technologies in teaching and learning.
Knowledge of copyright, intellectual property, and data privacy related to digital technologies and AI tools.
Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards and their application in support of ADA Title II compliance.
Experience with college-level LMS.
