Mizzentop Day School is a premier independent PreK–8 school in the Hudson Valley, dedicated to educating the whole child through a rigorous academic program grounded in strong relationships and the Living Values. With a commitment to intellectual curiosity, creativity, character development, and excellence across academics, the arts, athletics, and citizenship, Mizzentop seeks a dynamic and innovative STEAM Teacher to inspire students to think critically, create boldly, and engage deeply with the world around them. This educator will design and deliver an engaging, hands-on STEAM program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8, integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through project-based learning experiences that foster creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. The ideal candidate is forward-thinking and collaborative, eager to guide students in exploring emerging technologies, including AI, while grounding learning in meaningful, real-world applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design and teach an engaging, developmentally appropriate STEAM curriculum for students in Grades K–8
Develop and facilitate hands-on, project-based learning experiences that promote creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving
Integrate engineering design, robotics, and emerging technologies into classroom instruction
Utilize and manage the school’s Makerspace, including tools, materials, and resources for design and build projects
Guide students through long-term projects, experiments, and innovation challenges, fostering perseverance and independent thinking
Collaborate with classroom teachers to create meaningful cross-curricular connections between STEAM and core academic subjects
Introduce students to foundational concepts in robotics, and digital technologies, with developmentally appropriate progression across grade levels
Cultivate a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration, exploration, and intellectual risk-taking
Maintain and organize STEAM lab equipment, materials, and supplies to ensure a safe and productive learning space
Support and help lead school-wide initiatives such as science fairs, innovation showcases, and interdisciplinary projects
Additional Contributions
Contribute to the broader life of the school through STEAM-related electives, clubs, or summer programming
Partner with faculty and administration to thoughtfully integrate AI, robotics, and emerging technologies across the curriculum
Support Mizzentop’s mission by fostering students’ growth as creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and responsible innovators
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Education, STEAM field, or related discipline
Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students
Knowledge of project-based learning, design thinking, and/or Makerspace environments
Experience with robotics and/or educational technology tools
Strong collaboration and communication skills
A passion for working with children and a commitment to whole-child education
