The Department of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Integrated Health Sciences at the University at Albany, SUNY seeks an innovative and collaborative scientist for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning Fall 2026, whose research interests focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence and infectious disease. Preferred candidates will demonstrate a capacity to integrate cutting-edge computational approaches with biomedical science to address urgent challenges in pathogen biology, antimicrobial resistance, outbreak dynamics, and the development of novel diagnostics and therapeutics. The candidate will join an expanding group of computational researchers as part of UAlbany's new AI Initiative. The College of Integrated Health Sciences is a joint venture between the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the University at Albany. The department's partnership with investigators at the Wadsworth Center, the public health laboratory of the NYSDOH, provides an extraordinary opportunity for collaborative research on the frontlines of human health. Faculty benefit from access to world-class resources, including advanced genomics, imaging and structural biology facilities, and state-of-the-art laboratories. Faculty additionally have access to high-performance computing, including a new AI supercomputer powered by 24 NVIDIA DGX systems. This integration of academic-public health research offers a unique environment for translating fundamental discoveries into meaningful advances for human health.
This position is intended to strengthen the University at Albany's leadership in computational biomedical sciences by recruiting a faculty member whose work bridges artificial intelligence innovation and infectious disease research. The Assistant Professor will advance innovation by developing an externally funded research program applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to infectious disease biology and public health challenges; foster collaboration building interdisciplinary projects across the University and with the NYSDOH, linking computational discoveries to public health outcomes; educate and mentor by teaching in biomedical sciences and computational biology, and mentoring a diverse group of students and trainees to become future leaders in the field; enhance impact by contributing to the University at Albany's mission of advancing scientific discovery and innovation through the use of artificial intelligence while preparing the next generation to address global biomedical challenges.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in molecular biology, epidemiology, computational biology, biostatistics, microbiology or related fields, from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/15/2026.
A minimum of three years of relevant postdoctoral research experience.
Demonstrated strength and success in research productivity with publication of peer-reviewed manuscript.
Demonstrated evidence of artificial intelligence in existing research program.
Potential for teaching and developing undergraduate and/or graduate courses across modalities (in-person, hybrid, synchronous, asynchronous).
Potential to secure external grant funding.

Established research agenda in the areas of artificial intelligence and infectious disease.
