Texas Children’s Hospital, the largest and most comprehensive pediatric and women’s health system in the United States, seeks a dynamic and accomplished physician leader to serve as its next Chief Quality and Safety Officer (CQSO). Based in Houston, this individual will lead system-wide efforts to advance quality, safety, and clinical performance across a growing, mission-driven enterprise serving children and women locally, nationally, and globally.

The Opportunity Reporting to Dr. Larry Hollier, President of Health Affairs, Surgeon-in-Chief, and Chair of Surgery, the CQSO will be responsible for leading a bold quality and safety strategy aligned with Texas Children’s mission and vision. This leader will partner closely with physicians, nurses, executives, and administrators across all hospitals and care sites to embed a culture of high reliability, outcome-based care, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
The CQSO will oversee a robust infrastructure to monitor, evaluate, and advance quality, safety, patient experience, and clinical performance. This includes system-wide scorecards, data-driven improvement initiatives, and alignment with regulatory and accreditation standards. The leader will champion health equity, reduce preventable harm, and align clinical improvement with organizational goals and values.
Key Responsibilities
Set strategic direction for quality and safety across the system, in partnership Texas Children's leadership including campus executives, Chiefs, and Baylor College of Medicine clinical department leadership.
Drive improvement in clinical outcomes, patient safety, and experience, using evidence-based frameworks and performance metrics.
Oversee board-level quality reporting, regulatory readiness, and alignment with national best practices and standards.
Build and lead a high-performing quality and safety team; foster talent development, mentorship, and collaboration across the enterprise.
Cultivate a culture of continuous learning, transparency, and shared accountability.
Partner on innovation, informatics, and clinical transformation initiatives, including digital health, predictive analytics, and AI-supported tools.
Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a nationally recognized physician leader with:
Board certification in a pediatric medical or surgical specialty; advanced degree (MBA, MHA, MPH) preferred.
At least 10 years of progressive clinical leadership experience, ideally within an academic medical center or pediatric health system.
Demonstrated success developing and executing system-wide quality and safety initiatives.
Experience aligning clinical operations with organizational strategy, informatics, and population health improvement.
High emotional intelligence, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead through collaboration and influence.
A deep commitment to health equity, continuous improvement, and the well-being of children, families, and staff.
