Job Overview
The Instructional Technologist II serves as a key contributor to the successful integration and support of instructional technologies across the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S). This role blends hands-on technical expertise with instructional design collaboration, training development, systems administration, and event support. The technologist drives innovation in teaching and learning by implementing, managing, and supporting a broad range of academic and administrative technologies, with a strong focus on immersive technologies (e.g., virtual reality, augmented reality) and potential for future development with artificial intelligence (AI). They play a critical role in faculty development, virtual simulation design, and college-wide technology planning. This position is to be expected fully in-person with some remote flexibility during non-teaching periods. Review of applications will start on December 1st until position is filled.
Essential Functions
Training & Faculty/Staff Support
Plan, develop, and deliver technology training for faculty and staff on supported tools and platforms.
Conduct immersive technology orientations and onboarding for faculty and staff.
Maintain up-to-date documentation and resources for supported technologies. o Event Technology & Immersive Environments
Provide technical support for high-profile events and internal college functions related to learning in immersive environments.
Coordinate with vendors and stakeholders to acquire appropriate software and ensure seamless execution. o Immersive Simulation Development & Support
Collaborate with faculty to develop immersive simulations aligned with A&S?s mission.
Design immersive scenarios based on scripts, schedule sessions, manage user access, and maintain hardware (e.g., HTC and Quest headsets).
Conduct orientations and provide support for faculty engaging in virtual reality (VR) or other immersive simulations.
Grant & Research Technology Support
Provide technical consultation and support on grant-funded projects, including implementation planning, documentation, procurement, and deployment.
Act as a liaison between research stakeholders and internal IT resources.
Systems Support & College IT Coordination
Manage software orders, and assist with hardware procurement.
Serve as a backup administrator for college-specific systems and infrastructure.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
Six (6) years of relevant education, experience and/or other specialized training can fulfill minimum education and experience requirements
Required Experience
Two (2) years of experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) lecture capture, videoconferencing, technologies and pedagogical methods that promote effective use of learning technology.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Previous experience with immersive softwares, such as Unity, and app development.
Previous experience with grant writing.
Proficiency in a 2nd language.
