The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Counselor, Career/General, Foothill College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Under the direction of the Dean of Counseling, provides academic, transfer, career, personal counseling services, and teach counseling/career related courses. Responsibilities divided between providing leadership in career counseling and offering counseling services to the broader student population. Maintains regular office hours; gathers and reports student success data; participates in department and division meetings, professional development activities, and college or district committees; develops and evaluates curriculum; facilitates career counseling workshops and group discussions; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Provides counseling and follow-up services that support certificate and degree completion and successful transfer, with an emphasis on supporting students from diverse academic and socioeconomic backgrounds in clarifying goals, selecting majors, and exploring career pathways. Applies career development theory; administers and interprets appropriate assessment instruments; and integrates current labor market data to inform students about occupational trends, wages, and regional workforce needs through individual counseling, classroom presentations, and workshops. Contributes to program mapping initiatives to enhance student clarity and maintains accurate, student-centered career resources, including web-based content. Regularly shares updates with the counseling team regarding career trends, high-demand majors, and frequently asked student questions.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
2. Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling OR the equivalent. NOTE: a Bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience using labor market data to inform and guide student career decision-making
2. Experience developing creating and teaching career exploration activities or courses.
3. Experience supporting first-generation, adult learners, nontraditional students, and historically marginalized populations.
4. Training, certificate, or specialization in career counseling or career development
5. Experience supporting or coordinating program mapping work, guided pathways, or curriculum pathway communication
6. Experience maintaining career resource materials, especially web-based resources or student facing guides
7. Understanding of how emerging technologies, including AI, are influencing career exploration.
8. Experience providing general and transfer counseling services in a California community college setting, utilizing articulation agreements (e.g. ASSIST), general education (AA, Cal-GETC, IGETC, CSU GE Breadth) patterns, C-ID, TMC.
9. Proficiency with student information systems, degree audit tools, and online counseling platforms like Canvas, Ellucian DegreeWorks and Banner.
10. Effective verbal, written, interpersonal, and group communication skills.

HIRING RANGE: $84,256.00 - $135,627.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Tenure-track, 11-months per year.
