Web Platforms/Services (WPS) is a group within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our team provides enterprise-scale services that enable the creation of standards-based websites, web applications, and digital experiences for a wide variety of stakeholders at UW-Madison, across the Universities of Wisconsin and other higher education institutions in the nation.
This role is a significant member of the WPS leadership team to guide team members in developing and maintaining healthy team dynamics, service delivery best practices, and modern user experiences for our enterprise service offerings.
As an IT Manager, the individual in this role will be responsible for managing, coaching, mentoring, and promoting professional development for 10+ Information Technology professionals supporting our Web Hosting, WiscWeb and Shared Tools teams. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working collaboratively across the group, department, and division as well as in partnership with multiple UW-Madison campus units. This position will require astute team and relationship management, collaboration, and presentation skills. The individual in this position would also be comfortable with navigating change and managing stakeholder relationships in large institutions.
Responsibilities include: -General supervisory functions articulated by the Divisional Human Resources Department and the campus Office of Human Resources. -Coaching, guiding and leading individuals in everyday activities, long and short term goals, career objectives, performance management, and growth opportunities. -Participation in the group and department's leadership teams, to foster organizational health and improvement. -Knowledge and understanding of the campus landscape to help manage communication threads throughout the group. -Using project management capabilities to guide teams through large and small projects or initiatives. -Working with vendors to acquire and manage tools or services supported in the group.
Provides and develops operational oversight of enterprise information technology (IT) function(s), program(s), or service(s) to support institutional technology needs.
10% Develops, plans, and directs staff implementation of information technology serving the institution
15% Evaluates existing strategy and makes recommendations to information technology leadership for program enhancement
10% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised information technology operational policies and procedures impacting the institution
10% Serves as the subject matter expert to unit leadership regarding information technology operations and functions
45% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
5% May create and monitor the unit budget and approve expenditures
5% Participation in employee development activities, both assigned and self-initiated

Full Time: 100%
This position is eligible for any of the following: 100% remote work; partial remote work; or fully on-site. The Web Platforms/Services group operates in a hybrid model with a majority of team members working 100% or mostly remote. Remote work requires an approved remote work agreement (RWA) agreement. An RWA requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer. Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee.
Appointment Type, Duration:
Minimum $84,800 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Well qualified applicants can expect to earn between $90,000 - $110,000, with final salary based on experience and qualifications.
