Job Summary:
Position Description
The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication Studies with emphasis in Professional and Technical Communication and Artificial Intelligence (AI). A PhD in Communication, Communication Studies, Technical/Professional Communication, or a closely related field is required. Candidates must have an active research agenda in professional/technical communication and artificial intelligence (AI). Possible focus areas for that research might include human-AI collaboration in professional/technical communication, ethical implications of AI in technical communication, or AI's impact on efficiency and automation in technical communication processes.
Teaching responsibilities will include upper- and lower-level courses in communication studies as well as courses within the university's core curriculum. Preferred candidates will have experience teaching introductory professional and technical communication courses as well as service technical communication courses for students from STEM disciplines. The person appointed to this position will also teach courses supporting the program's new baccalaureate degree in Professional Communication and Digital Media Studies.
The appointment commences for the fall 2026 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A PhDor equivalent in Communication, Communication Studies, Technical/Professional Communication, or a related discipline is required prior to employment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Education and Experience: An active research agenda in professional/technical communication and artificial intelligence (AI) is preferred. Possible focus areas for that research might include human-AI collaboration and technical communication, ethical and practical implications of AI in technical/professional communication, and AI's impact on efficiency and automation in technical communication processes.
