The Senior Writer, Wexner Medical Center Advancement is responsible for writing impeccable communications and marketing materials that help deepen donor commitment to the Wexner Medical Center. A member of the Advancement Marketing and Communications (AMC) department, the Associate Director reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications for Wexner Medical Center Advancement.
A professional writer, the Senior Writer plays a valuable role in advancing the mission of Advancement, the university, and the Wexner Medical Center. This writer will develop creative, persuasive, and donor-centric content which may include leadership correspondence and remarks for events and speaking engagements, solicitations and annual giving appeals, and donor engagement and stewardship materials. Must be able to write to a variety of voices, at the appropriate tone, and with precision that requires minimal editing or revisions. Proofreads and edits own and others writing.
The Senior Writer applies industry knowledge and a thorough understanding of concepts, principals, and technical capabilities to perform tasks and projects. Works on complex projects of large scope; ; may refer to precedents and defined parameters. Completes routine work independently; receives general guidance on new projects. Work reviewed for purpose of meeting objectives. Exchanges information on sensitive matters. Works to build consensus. This writer is expected to demonstrate superior organizational, collaborative, writing and interpersonal skills, be highly motivated with the ability to thrive in a fluid and changing environment, critical thinking and creative problem-solving ability.

Department Overview
The Office of Advancement at The Ohio State University builds relationships to inspire life-changing philanthropy. Responsible for overseeing, driving content strategy, and monitoring all Advancement-owned marketing channels focused on donor, alumni, friend, fan, and grateful patient audiences, the Advancement Marketing and Communications department (AMC) has a broad base of responsibilities spanning Advancement that helps us identify connections and develop opportunities for collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities

Working with colleagues and partners, helps outline strategy for and creates persuasive, donor-centered content that resonates with the Wexner Medical Centers constituents and inspires them to give further including personalized proposals, reports, and more that strictly adhere to editorial style.
Works with subject matter experts throughout the medical center and university to gather and confirm information.
Advances the institutions education, research and patient care missions by informing and engaging existing and potential donors through internal and external communications including, but not limited to: publications, proposals, reports, speeches, and scripts.
Drafts donor- and campaign-related talking points and correspondence.
Works independently to successfully complete complex assignments that are broad in nature requiring significant originality, flexibility, and ingenuity.
Builds and maintains working knowledge of the medical centers fundraising objectives, embeds with Wexner Medical Center team, and establishes themselves as a valuable resource and partner with a variety of stakeholders.
Works closely and collaboratively with leadership, development and stewardship officers, deans and faculty, and marketing and communication teams to gather and confirm information, and align work with university, campaign, and unit-, priority-, and project-specific messaging.
Collaborates with designers to create high-impact materials.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in writing, communications, English, journalism, PR, marketing or related field
Minimum of 4 (four) years experience
Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills
Strong storytelling abilities with a focus on creating engaging and persuasive content
Excellent research and interviewing skills
Ability to work collaboratively and build trust-based relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders
Attention to detail, manage multiple projects and ability to adhere to tight deadlines
Past experience in development, fundraising, advancement or other persuasive writing
Knowledge of fundraising principles and donor engagement strategies
Professional portfolio with writing examples required
Desired Qualifications

Masters degree in writing, communications, English, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field.
Six (6) years of relevant experience; preferred professional writing experience.
Experience working in a large and complex organization

The budget for this position is up to $70,100.00. The offer for this position will be based on internal equity and the candidate's qualifications.
