The Department of Computer Science at Skidmore College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning September 2024. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related field. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
Skidmore seeks to attract an academically and culturally diverse faculty, especially those who can contribute to the growing diversity and excellence of the community through their teaching, scholarship, and service. Enthusiasm for advising, teaching, and mentoring a diverse population of students is essential. A commitment to quality instruction of undergraduates and continuing scholarly achievement is paramount. Tenure-track faculty are required to contribute to the general education curriculum, notably through teaching a course in the interdisciplinary First-Year Experience program. The teaching load is 18 to 20 contact hours, which usually translates into three to four courses per year, with one or two of those courses including two to four hours of laboratory sessions each week. Startup funds, pre- and post-tenure sabbaticals, internal grants, and travel funds are available.
The department has expertise in a wide range of sub-fields including artificial intelligence, the theory of computation, algorithms, databases, computer vision, networks, human-computer interaction, data science, and software engineering. With this appointment we hope to strengthen our expertise in one or more of these areas or to widen our areas of expertise. We are in the process of increasing opportunities for students to study artificial intelligence and adding opportunities for non-majors to gain exposure to computer science. In addition to strong disciplinary teaching and scholarship, including collaborative research with students, the College encourages interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship.
While Skidmore maintains numerous computing labs on campus for academic use, the department has its own Linux network including a twenty-one-seat teaching laboratory as well as machines for student and faculty research. The Linux network is supported by a dedicated system administrator within the department.
Review of applications will begin October 2, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. Applications from women and members of other underrepresented groups are especially encouraged.

To complete your application, you must also enter the names, affiliations, and contact information of three professional references who can provide letters of support in a timely fashion. Letters of support will be requested through the online system.
