Job Description:
Founded in 2022, the Information Futures Lab (IFL) at Brown University School of Public Health is a new type of university hub. Students and researchers work alongside organizations, journalists, civic society leaders, and other sources of trusted information to build a better future for civic information spaces. As increasingly chaotic and weaponized information environments threaten to erode key accomplishments in public health, the Lab collaborates across society to support citizens in effectively accessing, creating, and making sense of information that is crucial to their health and wellbeing.
The Associate Director for Research and Program Management at the Brown School of Public Health is responsible for the timely execution of research and programmatic initiatives at the Lab. Reporting to the faculty director, the incumbent leads an integrated team and executes innovative programs aimed at advancing the mission and strategy of the Lab. Using their expertise in organizational management, collaboration and research translation, the Associate Director for Research and Program Management will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Lab, manage staff and budgets, organize and improve processes and workstreams, and serve as a strategic partner to the director.
The Associate Director for Research and Program Management brings knowledge of research landscapes (peer-reviewed academic research and think tank) in various information related disciplines and of the evolving practices and needs of information media and education practitioners to the role, and
keeps current on best practices in organizational management and policies, maintains awareness of and expertise in the latest developments related to the Lab's and the School's priorities, including emerging health threats, the role of AI in transforming public health and information ecosystems and consumption, and other news and research items.
As the Information Futures Lab works closely with organizations responding to rapid changes in information environments and the urgent information needs of vulnerable populations, we seek a creative, flexible, impact-driven leader with experience working in fast-paced environments and the ability to manage a well-supported team towards high quality outputs on a consistent basis.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
Master's Degree, and at least 5 years of experience in investigative research with possible area expertise in communications, information disorder, behavioral sciences, equity and public health, digital humanities, or communications and public health interventions. Coursework or practical experience in related fields can substitute for educational level.
Experience managing complex programs in a leadership role.
Experience managing teams of six or more, including managers with direct reports and ability to manage up as needed.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated strong attention to detail/accuracy.
Proven flexibility in adjusting to changing demands and deadlines.
Strong knowledge and command of evolving media information trends, education and training best practices, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Ability to sustain a high level of productivity and work independently while being part of a collaborative team.
Sound judgment, discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters.
Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
