The Department of Environmental Health and Engineering in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health invites applications for a full-time, tenure track research and teaching assistantprofessor faculty position. We are seeking applicants with specific expertise in domestic and global health security, especially concerning high-consequence health security threats that could lead to pandemics or other large scale biological disasters.
The Center for Health Security, within the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering, is a leader in the field of health security. We explore how new policy approaches, scientific advances, and technological innovations can strengthen health security and save lives. We advance policies and practice addressing diverse challenges, including the global rise in emerging infectious diseases, a continued risk of pandemic flu, major natural disasters, and the potential for biological accidents or intentional threats.
Expectations for Applicants
Strong applicants will have expertise/experience within some, or all, of the following health security areas:
Diagnostics and medical countermeasures development and innovation for domestic and global pandemic preparedness and response;
Global and national health security implications of emerging developments in biotechnology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in biotechnology development;
Global health clinical and/or field experience;
Policy approaches to protecting peoples' health from naturally occurring, deliberately caused, or accidentally released high-consequence pathogens;
Policy approaches for incentivizing pandemic preparedness technologies;
Preventing or mitigating catastrophic health events and natural disasters threatened by climate change and understanding/addressing disproportionate impacts on specific populations and geographic areas.
Focus on equitable access to medical countermeasures and/or disparities in health outcomes during pandemics and other public health emergencies.
Strong applicants will also have research and some teaching expertise in any of the above areas, as well as experience engaging with the policymaking community and private sector to make progress in the field.Candidate(s) will be expected to be active contributors to the educational mission of the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering (EHE) and thus should also have experience in mentoring and advising students at the graduate level.
The ideal candidate will also have experience in utilizing innovative approaches to advance international and national mechanisms for infectious disease pandemic prevention, detection, response, or recovery. The candidate should enjoy working in a highly interdisciplinary team environment.
Candidates should also be committed to fostering principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout their research, teaching, and mentoring activities.

Desired Qualifications
Qualified applicants must hold a PhD, MD,DrPH, JD, DVM/VMD, or equivalent degree in public health, medicine, health policy, biology or related health or life science disciplines. Candidates with long-standing interest and experience in pandemic preparedness for potentially catastrophic outbreaks are encouraged to apply.
Additional preferred qualifications include post-doctoral research and/or policy scholarship in at least one of the following areas:health policy, public health, medicine, healthy security, emerging biotechnology policy, and/or AI and biotechnology, as well as teaching experience in one or more of these fields. Ideal candidates will have on-the-ground clinical and/or field experience in aglobal health security and/or infectious diseases setting. This experience could be US-based or internationally based.

Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
