The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is seeking applications for a non-tenure track Faculty of Civil & Environmental Engineering Practice at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Professor. Part-time Adjuncts will also be considered. CMU aims to attract exceptional candidates at any career stage who have expertise and interests in applying technology?particularly in computational modeling, digital twins, data analytics, and AI?across the broad areas of civil and environmental engineering.
This position is intended for professionals with diverse industry experience and technical expertise who can bring real-world insights to CEE?s online certificate programs, which includes our inaugural "Certificate in AI Engineering - Digital Twins & Analytics." The successful candidate will play a key role in connecting academia with industry, helping students prepare for successful careers in CEE within today?s interdisciplinary landscape. Depending on the candidate?s interests and motivation, the position may be full-time or part-time, and adjunct positions may be considered. For the part-time or adjunct role, responsibilities include implementing pre-developed online courses. The expected workload for the part-time position is approximately 15 hours per week. The full-time position would be responsible for implementing pre-developed online courses, developing new curricula, mentoring students, and teaching other CEE undergraduate and graduate courses, with a focus on sensing and computing. A remote work arrangement may be possible for part-time positions in some cases, but applicants must reside and work from one of the following states: AZ, CA, CO, MD, MA, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TX, VA, or DC.
Candidates should hold an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering or a related discipline and demonstrate the potential to integrate their professional practice with the CEE?s educational, research, and outreach programs. The ideal candidate will have experience leading industry projects that involve the implementation of sensing technologies, data analytics, computing systems, and/or AI. Additionally, they should have experience developing strategies and visions as an industry leader.
