FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The City College of New York (CCNY) of The City University of New York (CUNY) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member with expertise in Robotics and Controls engineering with applications in Power, Climate Change and Technology.
We are particularly interested in appointments at the Assistant Professor level. Exceptionally qualified candidates at Associate Professor or full Professor rank may also be considered.
It is anticipated the appointment will begin in Fall 2023. The position would form part of the core faculty of the Mechanical Engineering Department. The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching in the Mechanical Engineering Department, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and also develop new courses. The Department has active research programs in Energy, Advanced Materials, and Fluid Mechanics. The faculty member for this position would be expected to not only enhance the existing research components, but also develop new areas of research especially in the fields of controls and robotics related to power, climate change and technology.
Specific areas of research interest include biomimetic robotics, soft robots, medical robotics, autonomous arial, ground and underwater vehicles with applications to power, climate change and technology. Candidates with potential to develop interdisciplinary research and educational programs with partners in other GSOE, CCNY, and CUNY divisions are preferred. Examples of relevant areas for collaboration include artificial intelligence and computer vision applications. CUNY is the largest urban public university system in the United States. CCNY is a flagship campus of CUNY and a minority serving institution. The Grove School of Engineering (GSOE) at CCNY is the only public school in New York City offering bachelor???s, master???s, and PhD engineering degrees; it is also nationally ranked among the top 10% of US engineering institutions by virtue of the magnitude of its externally-funded research.
This position is part of a City College cluster hire, spanning multiple Divisions of the College and focused on environmental, cultural, and social justice in New York City and the Harlem community.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent as noted below. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or another closely related field and have a potential for building up and raising funding for a significant R&D program. Those applying for an Associate Professor or Full Professor position should have established records in research that demonstrates nationally and internationally recognized expertise.
VACCINE REQUIREMENT:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
COMPENSATION
Contractual Base Salary Ranges:
Professor: $83,878-$141,858
Associate Professor: $ 67,784- $117,805
Assistant Professor: $52,267-$99, 532
Salaries above the contractual base are available commensurate with experience and PSC-CUNY contract.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
