Two separate Lab-on-a-Chip Postdoctoral Associate positions are available in the McDevitt laboratory within the Bioengineering Institute and the Department of Molecular Pathobiology at New York University. Applications will be accepted only for those candidates that have completed their Ph.D. degrees with the required prior direct research experience (see below). Background: The McDevitt lab over the past decade has sustained efforts to develop and clinically validate a platform to digitize biology using sensors that learn. This programmable miniaturized diagnostics platform with embedded artificial intelligence has been adapted for several important clinical testing areas including oncology screening applications. Likewise, these efforts have led to the development of a powerful microfluidic-based single cell testing modality for various early disease detection themes including oncological indications. These highly scalable lab-on-a-chip diagnostic tools have potential to deliver new test and treat capabilities that can help to usher in arrival of precision oncology diagnostic care as well as early disease detection.

To help move these essential efforts closer to the clinics, a number of postdoctoral associate positions have been made available within the McDevitt laboratory. The successful postdoctoral candidates will work closely with cancer biologists, dentists, clinicians, and bioengineers to further develop, test and optimize new chip-based multiplexed immunoassay and cytology devices. The successful postdoctoral candidates will have prior experience with microfluidics, microfabrication, immunoassay assay development, cell imaging skills, and/or advanced microscopy skill sets. In addition, these candidates will possess the drive necessary to work independently, collaboratively, and draft peer review manuscripts and reports. Depending on the candidate's capabilities and interests, opportunities in entrepreneurship will be available. 

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,500 - $90,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Required Education:

Qualified applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, from a recognized institution of higher learning, in science or engineering including chemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, chemical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering or related disciplines. Qualified applicants will be no more than five years from the degree.

Required Experience and Skills:

The successful candidate must have strong organizational skills, good command of the English language, effective written and oral communication skills, and be able to provide significant evidence of research productivity. The successful applicant must have the ability to work independently, design and conduct experiments, and work on collaborative research projects as part of an interdisciplinary research team.

Candidates for the two positions should possess specific qualifications below:

1. Cytology Expertise
   1. Prior direct experience with cell staining and imaging techniques
   2. Prior direct experience with imaging processing (i.e. Image J, and confocal methods)
   3. Prior direct experience with cell culturing and cell processing methods
2. Portable Diagnostics, Immunoassay Expertise
   1. Prior experience with development of immunoassay test devices
   2. Prior direct experience with microfabrication and microfluidics
   3. Prior direct experience with biosensor development and testing
3. Microfluidics Microfabrication
   1. Prior direct experience with microfabrication and microfluidics
   2. Prior direct experience with computer aided design (CAD)
   3. Familiarity or direct experience with computer numerical controlled (CNC) micro milling, and/or injection molded plastic diagnostic device production
