The NYU School of Law’s Center for Labor and Employment Law (the Labor Center) and Institute of Judicial Administration (IJA) are seeking a single Deputy Director. The role is to serve as a program and operations manager for the centers, with training and growth towards launching new initiatives and engaging in development. This is an opportunity to work in the vibrant NYU Law School community.
About Our Centers. The Labor Center was created in 1996 as a nonpartisan forum for discussion of policy and legal issues involving the employment relationship. IJA, founded in 1952, is a leader in judicial education and offers a forum for nonpartisan thinking about the administration of justice. Samuel Estreicher, Dwight D. Opperman Professor of Law is the Faculty Director of both centers. Both centers have active advisory boards comprised of leading jurists, practitioners, and scholars. Both are highly-regarded organizations supporting research, liaising with courts, attorneys, and decision-makers, and fostering nonpartisan dialogue on issues of public policy
You would be part of a small and flexible team, working with the Faculty Director and Executive Director on all aspects of center operations, initiatives, and development. The Deputy Director will also oversee and receive help from undergraduate interns.
Responsibilities may include: • Events: program and event logistics from preparation to post-event such as drafting campaigns, booking facilities, handling catering and other set-up, preparing CLE applications, proactive management to ensure runs smoothly, being a strong engager at events with speakers and attendees, and handling post event CLE processing and evaluation synthesizing. • Communications: function as a proactive representative of the Centers and NYU Law with stakeholders including faculty and executive director, student interns, board members, government officials, lawyers and companies, judges, as well as liaising with other NYU departments. • Office/Administrative: perform a wide range of office functions including maintaining the database, Center websites and social media accounts, replenishing supplies, and managing student opportunities on NYU Law platforms and their schedules. • Finance: annual dues solicitations, processing gifts, invoices and reimbursements. • Branding and Publications: enhance the centers’ visibility across platforms with the general community; write your own articles and posts, edit and manage contributions to our newsletter and any other Center publications including transcripts of interviews conducted as part of IJA’s Oral History of Distinguished American Judges series; and oversee contributions to our Annual Conference on Labor and Employment Law publication. • New Initiatives- Assist Faculty Director and Executive Director in fundraising activities and development and management of current and new initiatives and programs, including making substantive suggestions, identifying and marshalling financial support to secure further endowments. • Collaboration: Identify new tools and procedures for efficient operations, work with other NYU Law departments such as alumni relations and clerkships, so that our Centers further the strategic initiatives of the law school.
Qualifications & Requirements: • a J.D. is preferred • At least 2+ years of professional work, preferably law related • A commitment to a bipartisan stance in advancing the Centers’ missions. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong communicator and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with lawyers, corporations, government and other institutional leaders • Conversant in Microsoft Office, with ability and willingness to learn ACT! (a CRM database application), Constant Contact (an event marketing program) and Canva (design application) as well as various NYU applications for submitting invoices and processing reimbursements. • Strong project management skills. Ability to take initiative and work independently, seeking guidance when appropriate. • Experience in website maintenance, Vimeo, and proficiency in graphics and document formatting and design, are a plus but not required.
This position is full-time with expectation to be in the office four days a week. Additional work from home is at the discretion of the Executive Director and Faculty Director.

Benefits and terms of employment Employment is at-will and subject to periodic performance and funding reviews. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $78,000-$93,000 plus benefits. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) a law degree, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
