The Pharmacy Services Department is seeking an experienced business professional to join the team. This position reports to the Pharmacy Supply Chain Contracting Manager. This role is responsible for supporting and developing pharmacy purchasing and drug shortage management systems and technologies to provide informed decision-making processes for line-item procurement, database management, and drug supply chain stability. This position will collaborate with the Pharmacy Data Solutions team to establish analytical and technological tools to enhance the Pharmacy Buyer?s workflow and drug management workflow. This will result in additional information and guidance to proactively address drug shortages. Given the nature of this work, excellent Microsoft Office skills are required, along with a baseline understanding of other technology systems.

Outside of shortage management, this position also supports purchasing analytical decisions as a secondary responsibility. As drug prices and procurement complexities continue to increase, this position will assess novel and alternative drug procurement channels to reduce expenditure and maintain drug access.
This position will work closely with the drug shortage pharmacist(s) to provide complete drug shortage management in both the Acute and Ambulatory Care settings. Specific responsibilities are listed below.
Investigate current market drug shortages and the impact they have on community/specialty pharmacy and hospital pharmacies
Analyze trends in drug utilization in hospital and community/specialty pharmacy settings (i.e., burn rates) at a national and institutional level to proactively identify drugs at risk of experiencing a shortage
Communicate routinely with manufacturers and wholesalers regarding drug availability
Compile information from various sources to create a product availability report unique to Michigan Medicine
Investigate shortage management solutions with the Pharmacy Contracting Manager, Senior Pharmacy Buyer, and Drug Shortage Pharmacist(s)
Optimize shortage management processes, in collaboration with the Drug Shortage Pharmacist(s) for both Acute and Ambulatory Care settings
Collaborate with the Pharmacy Data Solutions Team to repurpose current data streams to introduce automation and artificial intelligence into drug shortage management
Partner with pharmacy buyers throughout the institution to provide guidance on market availability
Serves as a liaison and expert resource for pharmacy drug shortage systems used by Pharmacy Services throughout the Michigan Medicine enterprise.
Collaborate with pharmacy buyers and contracting team to investigate novel drug procurement channels.
Utilize purchasing trends, utilization patterns, benchmarking data, and available market intelligence to identify cost-saving opportunities and margin-improvement strategies.
Analyze supplier performance and product alternatives to develop leverage points that support vendor negotiations, contract optimization, and value-driven purchasing decisions.
As drug prices and procurement complexities continue to increase, this position will assess novel and alternative drug procurement channels to reduce expenditure and maintain drug access.

Intermediate
Bachelor's degree in a recognized field which is directly related to the duties of this position.
A minimum of 3 years of experience analyzing and interpreting processes, clinical outcomes, and cost of care.
Ability to independently manage multiple projects with competing priorities with organizational skills and flexibility to meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate clearly, both verbal and written to internal and external constituents and apply a high degree of analytical, interpretive, and evaluative skills dealing with complex concepts, projects, etc.

Possess or be able to obtain a Pharmacy Technician license with the State of Michigan within 1 year of hire date.
Advanced degree in Analytics, Public Health, Health Administration, Business, Engineering, Pharmacy, or Data Science.
Depth of experience and proven track record implementing and supporting pharmacy purchasing or drug shortage systems within healthcare organizations.
Experience leading a highly productive team to accomplish a common goal.
Experience and credibility interacting with all levels of leadership.
