Brief Summary of Work for this Position: The School of Nursing (SON) within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), invites applications for 9-month, full-time, tenure-track/tenured Assistant or Associate Professor positions beginning August 2026.
Tenure-track faculty have teaching, research, scholarship, and service expectations. The primary teaching responsibilities will be assigned across undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to meet the SON's needs, including student advising and/or mentoring.
Tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in professional and community service and contribute to ongoing program evaluation and improvement. Successful candidates will be expected to relocate to North Carolina and maintain a campus presence as part of the SON faculty. Applicants for these positions should demonstrate the potential for high-quality teaching and a sponsored program of research
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Doctoral degree in nursing OR a doctorate in a related discipline with a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing at time of application. NOTE: Applicants with earned degrees will be given preference. If ABD at time of application, degree must be conferred by August 1, 2026 to be eligible for employment.
Demonstrate the potential for high-quality teaching and a sponsored research program.
A clear direction for research and scholarly activity is required.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience: Preference will be given to applicants with:
Teaching experience
A focused program of research (beginning or advanced) and scholarly activity that complements existing school research and scholarship focus.
Clinical experience in the following areas: community, mental health, adult health, and pediatrics
Experience with AI use in educational and professional settings
Required Certifications or Licensure: A current RN license in NC or eligibility for licensure in NC
Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The School of Nursing (SON) within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern North Carolina through education, research, scholarship, and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of healthcare professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and community outreach and impact. Nursing programs in the SON are CCNE accredited and the SON has been recognized by the National League of Nursing as a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, specifically in the area of promoting the pedagogical expertise of faculty. The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium, and low-fidelity human patient simulators as teaching and learning tools for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes the cognitive, affective, physical, and social development of the student as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.

Over 2,400 students are enrolled in programs within the SON. The SON has over 85 full-time faculty and employs over 60 part-time faculty per semester.
