The Adjunct Teaching Specialist is a temporary (per course), part-time, non-tenured position for our Professional Development and Lifelong Learning Programs. The AI for Productivity Adjunct Teaching Specialist will be responsible for developing and teaching a non-credit course on AI for non-IT professionals.
The Adjunct Teaching Specialist will collaborate with an instructional designer and program manager to develop the 4-week non-credit course during the first approximately six months of the position.
After developing the course, the Adjunct Teaching Specialist will teach the course using the developed curriculum. The course is fully online and uses a blend of synchronous and asynchronous instructional methods. Live instruction is done through a weekly Zoom session. Asynchronous instruction is done through the universityâ™s learning management system, Canvas.
The course will last 4 weeks. During the instructional phase of this position, the Adjunct Teaching Specialist is expected to be engaged and available for a total of 9 weeks, including the 2 weeks prior to the course start date and 3 weeks after the course end date.
This position offers a flexible work arrangement as a hybrid position and has the unique opportunity to help shape and be responsible for the student experience.
Course Development 50%
Create clear, succinct, and measurable outcomes for the course. Identify, sequence, and structure the topics the course will address in each module. Develop learning activities and course media that support the course learning outcomes. Develop learning assessments that allow learners to demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes. Collaborate with an instructional designer, program manager, and other university staff throughout the course development process. Follow the requirements for course development laid out in the course development handbook.
Section Prep 10%
Record and post introduction video. Send course introduction email. Verify dates and contents of course site are correct. Make any needed updates and corrections. Open the course and modules.
Live Instruction 10%
Prepare for weekly Zoom sessions following a structure provided by the pre-designed curriculum. Facilitate weekly zoom sessions as scheduled by the department and following the expectations in the instructor handbook. .
Learning Assessment and Feedback 20%
Evaluate submitted work to determine if each learner has achieved the course learning objectives. Provide feedback to learners to help them develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to achieve the course learning outcomes. Submit final grades.
Support Learners 10%
Respond to learner questions about course content and logistics by email or other communication means within the learning management system. Meet with learners by Zoom as needed and at mutually agreed upon times to provide assistance in understanding course content and activities.
REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree and at least four or more years of work experience related to the subject matter
Ability to explain concepts in ways that help others learn
Ability to provide feedback that both encourages and helps learners develop knowledge, skills, and abilities
Effective verbal and written communication skills
PREFERRED:
Master's degree and at least six or more years of work experience related to the subject matter
Experience teaching adult learners in both live and asynchronous contexts
Experience developing and/or teaching topics related to AI
Ability to evaluate assessments (e.g. course projects) to determine if they demonstrate achievement of course learning outcomes.
