Position Summary:
Oxbridge Academy is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and forward-thinking 21st-century librarian to collaborate with teachers and empower students in all aspects of information literacy—including research, copyright, AI, data collection, and writing.
Our librarian plays a vital role in inspiring students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. Partnering with classroom teachers, the librarian designs and implements engaging lessons, fosters a love of learning, and ensures equitable access to resources. Additionally, they manage and curate a dynamic collection of materials to serve the students, faculty, staff, and greater school community.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with teachers across departments to identify opportunities in existing and new curricula for information literacy lessons.
Guide students in information literacy lessons through differentiated instruction, adapting teaching methods to various learning styles and interests.
Champion 21st-century literacy skills with teachers, students, parents, and the larger community.
Be passionate about staying current on the evolving information literacy landscape and continue to fine-tune lessons that will be current and relevant for students and teachers.
Provide scaffolded information literacy instruction across all grade levels and departments, using differentiated teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and interests.
Maintain a diverse, current, and award-winning collection by staying informed on book trends. Maintain accurate student records in a digital student information system.
Create engaging digital content for library events and programming.
Oversee and manage textbook inventory for grades 6-12, coordinating with department heads on forecasts, orders, and usage timelines.
Facilitate large-scale textbook checkout/return events at the start and end of the school year and smaller distributions throughout the year.
Serve as an advisor, informing parents and guardians about students' academic progress, social development, and well-being.
Establish and uphold school-wide expectations for behavior, modeling Oxbridge's core values of kindness, courtesy, integrity, respect, and compassion.
Pursue professional development to stay at the forefront of library science, technology, and education.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support the school community.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program (or an equivalent internationally recognized program).
Previous experience as an independent school librarian strongly preferred.
Passion for engaging middle and high school students in reading, research, and information literacy.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to connect with students, parents, and faculty.
Proven ability to measure and evaluate student learning and academic growth, with at least three years of relevant experience in a school library or related educational setting.
Excellent organizational and project management skills to handle multiple responsibilities effectively.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment.
Strong technical proficiency, with familiarity in LibGuides, Destiny, OverDrive, or similar library management and database systems preferred.
Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods.
