Founded in 1887, Cornell Law School is a top-tier law school, currently ranked 14th by U.S. News & World Report. We offer a 3-year JD program for about 200 students per class, a one-year LLM program for about 120 students from countries throughout the world, and a doctoral (JSD) program for about 2-3 new students per year. The Legal Information Institute (LII) at Cornell Law School LII seeks a Legal Innovation Summer Fellow to collaborate with the LII team on an innovative project advancing LII's service to the public. The fellowship provides an opportunity for someone with an interest in civic technology to do work with the potential to reach millions of people as they contend with the legal dimension of their work, personal, and civic lives. The Fellowship is funded through the Tom Bruce Legal Innovation Fellowship Fund.

Duties include the following:

• Work with LII's core staff to solve the most intriguing and pressing problems facing the LII as we bring an ever-evolving set of technologies to the information problems of a public that has come to rely upon us.
• Help the LII tackle uniquely difficult challenges and be a source of creative energy for LII's core staff.
• Work on problems in legal informatics, original legal content, application development, computer science, or information science as needed.
• Assess innovation opportunities.
• Refine project scope.
• Present work on the project to LII and the community.

This fellowship is for a three-month term and is not benefits eligible. The selected candidate may choose to work in Ithaca, NY or remotely. Confirmed remote or hybrid work arrangements are subject to university approval, if working outside New York State. Please note that the New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working outside New York State.

The anticipated start date is June 2, 2025.

Required Qualifications:

• M.Eng., JD, MLIS, or equivalent combination of training or experience.
• Experience contributing to legal information systems; legislative or regulatory information systems; civic technologies; AI-and-law; or related work.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working within, for, or with government at the federal, state, or local level.
• Experience with not-only-relational data modeling such as document or graph data modeling.
• Experience with content production for a general audience.
