Annunciation Orthodox School (AOS) seeks a Director of Middle School Library who values the mission of the school and is dedicated to fostering intellectual and personal growth within the middle school community. This position cultivates a vibrant learning environment where students are inspired to become lifelong readers, adept researchers, and critical thinkers. Operating under the guiding principles of the American Library Association (ALA) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), the Director ensures ethical practices and professional standards are upheld. This role plays a pivotal part in shaping the "hearts and minds" of the school community by prioritizing access to information, promoting literacy, and nurturing a love of learning.

Status: Salaried/Exempt                        

Start Date: July 30, 2025

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 AM-3:30 PM with additional time as needed for meetings and professional development.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive library program aligned with the school's mission and educational goals
• Manage the MS library budget, resources, and collection development, including acquisition and weeding
• Oversee circulation, cataloging (Follett Destiny), and inventory management. Manage database and media subscriptions, including digital resources like Overdrive
• Maintain a welcoming and functional library space that supports reading, research, collaboration, and creation
• Supervise study hall and independent study as needed
• Develop and oversee the 5-8 library curriculum, integrating information literacy and research skills
• Collaborate with teachers to design and implement curriculum-aligned projects and resources
• Provide instruction on research skills, including the use of NoodleTools and other digital tools
• Create and maintain LibGuides and other digital resources
• Provide presentations on plagiarism, AI policies, and other relevant topics
• Promote reading through book talks, displays, and other engaging activities
• Organize author visits, writing workshops, and book fairs
• Provide readers advisory services
• Develop, organize, and maintain the school archives, including digitization and preservation
• Collaborate with the Communications department and Advancement Office on archival projects
• Manage loaner Chromebooks for temporary student use
• Maintain current knowledge of library and information science trends
• Participate in professional organizations and attend relevant conferences as professional memberships including the HAISLN librarian group and reading list committee
• Collaborate with other librarians and school staff
• Attend all required meetings and after-school functions

Qualifications:

• Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent leadership experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of and love for working with middle school students with great energy, playfulness, and understanding
• Extensive knowledge and experience in middle school library management, curriculum development, middle school appropriate literature, and archival practices
• Proficiency in relevant digital tools and technologies, including Follett Destiny, LibGuides, NoodleTools, and Google Suite for education productivity tools
• Classroom teaching experience  
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to align library services with institutional goals and drive continuous improvement
