Department Information
Stanford University School of Medicine's Lane Medical Library accelerates scientific discovery, clinical care, medical education, and humanities through teaching, collaboration, and delivery of biomedical and historical resources. The library is a state-of-the-art medical library within the Medical Student Education group which supports Stanford Medical Center's research, education, and patient care objectives. Lane Library supports its mission to accelerate scientific discovery in part by providing research services and curating a collection of resources relevant to the in-depth research, graduate-level education, and clinical patient care performed by the Stanford Medicine community and its affiliated hospitals and clinics. We are proud of our rich history dating back to 1882.
Job Purpose
Lane Medical is recruiting for the inaugural Gloria A. Linder Librarian (Librarian 1). The position is a unique opportunity for a recent or near-graduation librarian who is passionate about advancing their career within the field of health sciences librarianship. This position is funded through the Gloria A. Linder Library Fund, which aims to support librarians who have received a professional degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program. Students near the completion of such a degree will also be considered.
This 2-year, fixed-term appointment will focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and education, providing the incumbent with the opportunity to develop and implement innovative projects that leverage technology to enhance library services. The Gloria A. Linder Librarian role not only offers a chance to contribute significantly to the Lane Medical Library but also serves as a steppingstone in the librarian's professional journey. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that supports diverse voices and perspectives in the field of librarianship.
This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting from the Bay Area (hybrid of working 2-3 days on-site), subject to operational need.

Core Duties
AI Integration in Library Services:
Explore and help implement AI-driven tools and technologies to improve information access, research support, and user experience.
Collaborate with library staff to assess current AI technologies and identify areas for further adoption and enhancement.
Conduct workshops and training sessions for students, faculty, and staff on utilizing AI resources to effectively enhance research and education.
Develop and implement outreach strategies to promote the Library's role and services around AI and other strategic areas.
Research and Education:
Collaborate with academic and clinical departments to integrate library resources into curricular and research initiatives.
Provide services, consultations, and training on AI and other strategic areas. Create web-based synchronous and asynchronous instruction materials.
Participate in Lane's expert search service conducting literature and systematic reviews, assisting with data management plans and research impact queries.
Provide liaison support for faculty, staff, and/or students in designated departments.
Professional Development:
Stay current with trends in librarianship, AI technology, and educational methodologies.
Engage in professional organizations, attend conferences, and participate in continuing education opportunities.

Education & Experience (Required):
Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required):
Knowledge of relevant aspects of library operations including understanding of contemporary library practices, trends and emerging technologies.
Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with wide variety of people.
Effective problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
Demonstrated broad knowledge of library discovering environments, office automation software, and online resources.
Ability to quickly learn and sue print and online tools and resources and in area of specialization.
Evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
An (ALA-accredited master's degree in library science or the equivalent (must be completed or near completion).
Strong interest and demonstrated knowledge of artificial intelligence technologies and their applications in library services.
Experience or coursework in health sciences librarianship, reference and research services, and/or education.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Physical Requirements:
Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand.
Rarely use a telephone, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), operate hand controls.
Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 70 pounds.
Working Conditions:
May work in confined spaces and at heights 4-10 feet; be exposed to dust and mold; work extended hours, evenings and weekends.

The expected pay range for this position is $81,546 to $94,170 per annum.
The actual pay will be pro-rated on the 50% FTE.
