Overview
The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) at Tufts University invites applications for an Assistant Director with demonstrated knowledge and expertise in experiential and clinical teaching and learning approaches. Tufts University is a private institution of higher learning committed to the liberal arts and a collaborative, interdisciplinary culture of cutting-edge research across nine schools and four campuses. Operating within the Office of the Provost, CELT works across all Tufts campuses and schools. The Center is supported and guided by an enthusiastic and dedicated cross-school advisory board. CELT has been recognized through the Tufts Champion of Collaboration Award for “successfully building diverse and productive relationships across and beyond the University.”
About CELT
The mission and vision of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (http://provost.tufts.edu/celt/) is to collaborate with faculty, departments, and schools to advance a culture of learner centered, critically reflective teaching and leadership rooted in evidence and equity. We aspire to influence and advance the Tufts educational mission by creating an environment that nurtures faculty growth, values the student as a whole person, and promotes innovative and equitable learner-centered practices. We practice these same values in our everyday work and interactions at the Center.
The CELT staff have earned doctorates in the social sciences, humanities, and STEM fields, thus making them interdisciplinary. In the aggregate, they have experience as classroom faculty, engage in research, scholarship, and knowledge production, and some have worked with graduate students in various capacities.
Although the center is located on the Medford campus, we play a critical role in experiential teaching and learning across all Tufts campuses. The person in this role will be an important part of a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive team that develops programming to support ongoing teaching improvement and innovation with a dedicated focus on experiential and clinical education.
What You'll Do
The Assistant Director, Center for Enhanced Learning and Teaching will participate in the development of innovative programming with CELT colleagues and other partners to meet emerging faculty needs and be responsive to the Tufts Educational Vision as articulated by the Office of the Vice Provost for Education with a focus on the expansion of experiential pedagogies that include but are not limited to field- based learning, team-based learning, problem-based learning, case-based learning, simulations, and role plays, and clinical training in health professions.
Essential Functions:
Participate in the development and implementation of CELT programming such as workshop series, communities of practice, and roundtables focused on experiential approaches to teaching, and clinical education for faculty responsible for hands-on training in allied or health professions such as Occupational Therapy, Public Health, Medical and Dental education, or Veterinary medicine.
Work across the Tufts campuses in Medford, the Boston Health Sciences Campus, the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Knowledge of and experience with AI and the responsible use of Generative AIs as tools for teaching and learning.
Participate in the integration of Tufts' mission into programming that supports faculty engaged in teaching that intersects with Presidential priorities and the Ed Vision, including but not limited to global learning initiatives, climate science and sustainability, and civic engagement.
Consult and partner with other units across Tufts to advance learner-centered, equitable, and inclusive teaching and learning practices consistent with CELT’s strategic plan.
Provide teaching and curricular consultations with Tufts faculty, departments, and schools upon request.
Facilitate mid-term feedback sessions.
Engage in scholarship (conference presentations, research, publishing) and professional development activities as a thought leader specifically in experiential learning, and innovations in clinical or applied education disciplines.
