The Rashi School, the Boston Area’s Reform Jewish Independent School, serving students in grades Pre-K-8, is seeking a passionate and innovative STEAM Educator (anticipated opening) to inspire and empower our students through hands-on, project-based learning. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of creativity, exploration, collaboration, and problem-solving within our state-of-the-art Kol-lab (Rashi’s STEAM lab). You will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging student-centered STEAM projects that integrate computer science, programming, robotics, data science, electricity, design thinking, AI, and other disciplines.

Responsibilities:
Develop and implement curriculum:
Design and deliver an engaging and age-appropriate STEAM curriculum for students in grades PK-8, focusing on innovation and collaboration, in an environment that fosters student empowerment and independence, and practical application.
Create and facilitate hands-on projects that incorporate robotics, STEAM, programming, electricity, design thinking, and data science.
Introduce students to fundamental concepts of computer science, AI, and data science through interactive activities.
Integrate the use of digital fabrication tools, including a laser cutter, 3D printers, and other relevant technologies.
Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment that encourages experimentation, risk-taking, perseverance and reflection.
Facilitate project-based learning:
Guide students through the design process, from ideation and prototyping to testing and refinement, including data collection and analysis.
Promote collaborative learning and teamwork through engaging group projects.
Facilitate STEAM projects that connect to real-world applications and challenges, including the use of data to inform decisions.
Support students in developing capstone projects that showcase their skills and knowledge, potentially including data-driven investigations.
Integrate with other disciplines:
Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate makerspace activities into existing curriculum across all disciplines, including the use of data visualization and interpretation in science and social studies.
Develop interdisciplinary projects that connect science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, and data science.
Work with teachers to create projects that enhance learning in core subjects by using data to explore concepts.
Makerspace management:
Maintain and organize the makerspace, ensuring a safe and functional environment.
Manage inventory of materials and equipment, including ordering supplies as needed.
Train students and staff on the safe and proper use of makerspace equipment and basic data analysis tools.
Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in makerspace education, including data science education resources.
Professional development:
Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in STEAM education, including data science tools and techniques.
Share best practices and resources with colleagues, including pedagogical strategies for teaching data literacy.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, engineering, computer science, data science, or a related field.
Experience teaching and working with students in a makerspace or similar environment.
Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Scratch, Python, block-based coding).
Knowledge of robotics, electricity, design thinking, and basic data analysis concepts.
Experience with digital fabrication tools (e.g., laser cutter, 3D printer) is highly desirable.
Basic understanding of data collection, visualization, and interpretation.
Experience in integration with other disciplines.
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Passion for fostering creativity and innovation in students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, data science, or a related field.
Experience developing and implementing project-based learning curriculum, including data-driven projects.
Experience with AI education tools and resources.
Experience with Micro:bits, ADAFruit playground, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi.
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Google Sheets, Tableau Public).
Experience with educational data science platforms.
Physical Requirements:
Able to sit, stand, type, twist, bend.
Able to use telephone and computers.
