The Department of Art + Design in the College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) of Northeastern University seeks exceptional applicants for full-time, non-tenure track Teaching Professor (open rank) positions in Games for the MS in Game Science and Design and the undergraduate Game Design Programs on the Boston campus.
We are seeking interdisciplinary applicants who are practicing game developers with specific expertise in game production, user research, and game design. Applicants should have a passion for advancing the design and development of games through their teaching, mentorship, and leadership. Ideal candidates are active participants in the field with key contacts in the game industry, and experienced speakers/writers about their creative practice.
Successful candidates will teach existing courses in game production, game design, user research, and/or game studio courses. They will further help our game development students to manage their projects and successfully release and promote their games to audiences outside the University. The position involves curriculum development opportunities and collaboration with research faculty in games towards the creation of game development projects across art, health, AI, sustainability, aging, and other relevant domains.
Qualifications
A terminal degree in a games-related field (PhD or MFA) or equivalent professional experience in Games prior to the start date of the position is required. The duties and responsibilities of the position begin in August 2025. Experience with mentoring junior developers/student interns and hybrid delivery methods is preferred.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the graduate (GSND) and undergraduate (GAME) game programs. A full course load with a 1.0 fte appointment will be 3 courses per semester (6 in total) with the opportunity to teach in the summer (May-August) for extra compensation. With a two-thirds time appointment, the course load is reduced to 2 courses per semester. The position's standard duties consist of 80% teaching, 10% service and 10% creative practice. Candidates should be open to the possibility of working with the department heads on delivering coursework in a hybrid learning format.
