Wellesley College seeks a highly motivated and creative Science Librarian devoted to public service in a liberal arts college environment.
The Science Librarian will act as liaison to science departments on campus, offering innovative support for the teaching, learning, and academic research in science disciplines taught at the college, such as Psychology, Computer Science, Physics and Astronomy, Biological Sciences, and Chemistry, and will be a key contributor to data literacy initiatives across the disciplines. This Librarian will work collaboratively as a key member of the Research Services team to build a community of students who are information literate and confident lifelong learners. The Librarian will work collaboratively with LTS colleagues and faculty to develop the Library's collections to support science education and research.
The Librarian will continually assess and advocate for science disciplinary needs, seeking thoughtful ways to address them through collaborations with faculty and colleagues on assignment design, integrated instruction, individual consultations, support for independent learning, and collection development. As part of the deeply merged Research and Instruction Support team of librarians and instructional technologists, the Librarian supports faculty and students in all disciplines in the exploration and application of new technologies and methodologies for scholarly inquiry.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and provide engaging and effective instruction and in-depth research support for faculty and students in science disciplines. Partner with faculty to integrate information literacy into disciplinary curricula.
Through instruction, consultations, and other methods, facilitate data acquisition, interpretation, and management within the sciences, and participate in cross-disciplinary data literacy initiatives.
Select and evaluate materials to support current and developing curricular and research needs in the sciences.
Keep abreast of emerging scholarly trends, resources, and technologies in science disciplines, such as Open Science or AI and Machine Learning, with a view toward their application in or implications for research and instruction.

Must Have Qualifications
Master's degree in Library and Information Science or related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution.
Academic background in a science discipline taught at the college, and/or significant experience providing research support for the sciences.
Demonstrated experience and comfort providing effective instruction and consultations.
Evidence of continuous professional self-development, curiosity, and experimentation.
Understanding of the liberal arts model of higher education.
Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace, and an ability to work productively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
Ability to collaboratively tackle problems and new projects with enthusiasm, tact, and humor.
Comfort with risk taking and change in a rapidly evolving profession.
Nice to Have Qualifications
Experience with scholarly communication or open science practices or initiatives.
Experience with tools, programs, or programming languages used for data management and visualization.
