Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons is seeking a highly motivated and Postdoctoral Researcher with a strong background in Computer Science and Machine Learning for the Program for Hospital and Intensive Care Informatics (PHICI). PHICI is a multi-disciplinary program focused on developing and providing sustainable support and leadership for transformative medical Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, education and clinical applications to advance patients? health in critical and acute care medicine. The Program addresses an unprecedented opportunity for world-leading, immersive research in AI, the innovation to transform diagnoses, and to monitor and treat critically and acutely ill patients using the multimodal clinical research resources stemming from NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
PHICI is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to assist our transdisciplinary team in conducting cutting-edge research in medical artificial intelligence. Successful applicants will work under a large funded research portfolio. This position is expected to work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (Soojin Park) and in collaboration with the PHICI research team. Of special interest are applicants with focus in one of these areas:
1.Causal Inference: Apply causal inference methods to study cause-and-effect relationships in data. Investigate and develop approaches to infer causal structures from observational data.
2.Data Assimilation: Apply dynamical system approaches to forecasting clinical events within well-circumscribed diagnoses and physiologic scenarios.
3.Reinforcement Learning: Explore complex temporal decision making in neurocritical care and find opportunities for applying theory to the implementation of AI clinical decision support.
Key Responsibilities:
4.Research and Development: Develop novel algorithms, models, and methodologies to address problems pertaining to health care domain, specifically in the field of neurocritical care.
5.Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including data scientists, research coordinators, clinical fellows, domain experts, and other researchers. Engage in knowledge sharing and contribute to a stimulating research environment.
6. Publication: Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals to contribute to the scientific community's knowledge.
A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
Strong expertise in machine learning and/or deep learning.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.
Experience with implementing machine learning models in practical applications.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
A proactive and self-driven attitude with the ability to work independently on research projects.
Experience in time series analysis is a significant plus.
