The Department of Computer Science at East Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, to begin August 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Data Science, mentor diverse students, develop collaborative research, establish an externally funded research program, and publish scholarly work.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Candidates are required to have a terminal degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Data Science from a regionally accredited institution and a demonstrated potential for developing a research program at ECU. Candidates with PhD conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the probationary rank of Assistant Professor. Rank will be commensurate with education and experience. For appointment as an Assistant Professor, candidates must have a conferred PhD and have indicators for success in building a robust, independent research program, effective teaching and advising, and service to the department. For appointment as an Associate Professor, candidates must fulfill the requirements of the appointment of Assistant Professor, including a conferred PhD, and demonstrate consistent and excellent achievements in research productivity, teaching, and professional service. ABD candidates will be considered. ABD candidates will be appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to the first reappointment.

Organizational Unit Overview:
The Computer Science department has eleven tenured or tenure-track positions and also employs fixed-term and adjunct instructors. Current areas of research in the department include software engineering, artificial intelligence, data management and mining, computer vision, information retrieval, cybersecurity, programming languages, and computer science education. The department offers five degree programs: a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering, and Master's degrees in Computer Science, Data Science, and Software Engineering. Approximately 500 undergraduate and 100 graduate students are enrolled in these programs.
