The Center for Educational Innovation (CEI) at the University of Minnesota is seeking two Teaching Consultants to support and advance high-quality, evidence-based, and inclusive teaching practices and learning environments. The Teaching Consultants collaborate with the University of Minnesota faculty and instructors with teaching responsibilities as well as staff who support teaching to lead the development and implementation of programs and resources that advance the educational priorities and commitments of the University.
At all five University of Minnesota campuses, CEIâ™s Teaching Consultants lead, partner on, and support the educational projects and priorities of academic units. The Teaching Consultants may also collaborate with colleagues from academic technology units, disability resource centers, offices of equity and diversity, gender and sexuality centers for queer and trans life, libraries, writing centers, and units that support student mental health and well-being. Through these collaborations, Teaching Consultants provide professional development directly to all ranks of faculty and instructors, as well as to postdocs and graduate students. This work takes the form of programs, workshops and webinars, individual consultations and resource development.At all five University of Minnesota campuses, CEIâ™s Teaching Consultants lead, partner on, and support the educational projects and priorities of academic units. This is a 80% to 100% time, 12-months annually renewable appointment in the academic professional personnel series, job code 9745S2 (Education Program Specialist 2) or 9745S3 (Education Program Specialist 3), depending on qualifications and experience. The start date is negotiable.
JOB DUTIES:
Provide teaching-related professional development to faculty, instructors and teaching staff of the UMN through effective listening to and communicating with all ranks of faculty and instructors, as well as postdocs and graduate students (60%):
Design, deliver, assess, and improve evidence-based, accessible, and inclusive teaching and learning resources, webinars and programs. Topics reflect CEIâ™s existing portfolio (such as curricular and course design, assessment, and online teaching). Consultants are also able to create new resources, webinars and programs that (1) reflect their lenses, interests and experiences and (2) meet the needs of the University teaching community.
Teach graduate courses in the Preparing Future Faculty program (for those with a terminal degree). Develop advanced special topics GRAD 8200 courses based on expertise and University need.
Provide client-centered consultations and course observations.
Using effective organizational skills, support and advance key educational initiatives at all five University of Minnesota campuses in partnership with collaborators including central University administration, academic leadership, and faculty and staff (30%):
Manage, support, and provide expertise to shape complex or large-scale educational projects that are particular to academic units or University-wide; provide leadership, sometimes including project management, to ensure successful execution. Educational projects may include faculty development for inclusive and equitable teaching, addressing equity gaps in large enrollment courses, and curricular revision and development.
As CEI liaison to one or more University of Minnesota campuses, colleges or schools: 1) develop and maintain strong, working relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff in those units; 2) partner with academic leaders in these units to advance their educational priorities and goals; and 3) provide a range of professional development services and support.
Other (10%):
Contribute to University and CEI committees and project teams that advance strategic goals and internal effectiveness.
Pursue ongoing professional growth and development that aligns with University and CEI priorities.
Participate in ongoing professional engagement through presentations and/or publications at the local, national, or international level.
Attend CEI and other meetings.
WORK MODE: The University of Minnesota supports flexible work arrangements. At CEI, this includes working in person at the Twin Cities campus on Tuesdays and at least one other day per week chosen by each staff member. Occasional travel to the other campuses is required.
The salary offered to selected candidates will be determined by factors that include UMN salary ranges for each position based on scope and responsibilities, the qualifications and experience of selected candidates, departmental budget availability, and internal equity, CEI is able to assist with funding to support relocation expenses for moving to the Twin Cities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of relevant post degree experience or a Masters or equivalent degree and at least 4 years of experience (for Education Program Specialist 2); or Master's degree and at least 6 years of relevant post degree experience (for Education Program Specialist 3)
Teaching experience (for example, K12, continuing education, community and extension education, postsecondary/higher education) and/or experience supporting high school and postsecondary students (advising, tutoring, coaching, mentoring)
Experience supporting the professional development of educators (for example, K12 educators, continuing education, community and extension education, postsecondary/higher education
Experience designing inclusive and accessible learning environments
Ability to work effectively with diverse clients, colleagues, and/or students
Ability to manage projects
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate or ABD
Experience using evidence to inform teaching practice in higher education
Experience with the design, delivery, assessment, and improvement of teaching-related, professional development programs and services in higher education
Experience or demonstrated interest/pursuit of learning in one or more additional areas that support teaching and learning in higher education (for example, artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching, curriculum development, digital accessibility, learning assessment, online teaching, evaluation of teaching, anti-racist pedagogy, graduate and clinical education, large enrollment introductory courses)
