Job Summary: | The Department of Risk and Insurance at the Wisconsin School of Business invites applications at all ranks (Assistant, Associate, Full Professors) for a position to start August 18, 2025.
This position is part of the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE)-Artificial Intelligence (AI) cluster hire initiative (https://rise.wisc.edu/rise-ai/). The candidate's tenure home will be in the Risk and Insurance department at the Wisconsin School of Business, and the candidate will participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools, and colleges. The Risk and Insurance Department is excited to add a thought leader who expands our expertise on the role of AI, with applications to topics in risk and insurance. Some potential areas of research focus we have identified include the regulation and ethics of AI, Insure-tech and evolving risk and insurance business models leveraging AI, and advances in actuarial techniques using AI and related technologies.
The Risk and Insurance Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of the oldest such programs in the country, dating back to the 1930s. Our faculty comes from a range of fields, including economics, risk management and insurance, actuarial science, and statistics. While we are united by interests related to the management of risk and insurance, the umbrella of our research scope is broad. You do not need to be an "insurance scholar" to fit in our department. We offer undergraduate majors in actuarial science and risk management and insurance, which are both consistently ranked among the best in the world. We also offer a PhD program in Insurance Economics & Actuarial Analytics as well as a Capstone Certificate in Actuarial Science. Our faculty also teach and play important roles in the school's business analytics programs, including the Masters of Science in Business Analytics program, a new online Masters of Science in Data, Insights, and Analytics, as well as the school's Full-time and Professional MBA programs. Our faculty in particular have strong connections and collaborations with faculty throughout campus in departments such as economics, engineering, public policy, population health and statistics.

Education: | Required PhD in actuarial science, computer science, economics, finance, legal studies, risk management and insurance, statistics or related field required by start date. |
