The Senior Engineer develops and executes machine learning / artificial intelligence research and development efforts for the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME); works closely with industry partners to ensure projects are completed in accordance with project milestones, deliverable requirements and within the cost and schedule agreed upon during project scoping; partners with division director to ensure disciplined internal project management processes are followed; works with OSU faculty, CDME staff and students to coordinate multi-disciplinary tasks; utilizes advanced technical expertise and established leadership skills in determining the most direct path for program success and provides sound technical solutions for complex problems drawing upon personal experience, Ohio State University faculty, outside sources/suppliers, and staff within CDME; leads and writes technical reports and proposals for submission to sponsoring agencies; travels to customer facilities for project meetings and presents research results at conferences and symposia, building professional networks and promoting CDME activity; establishes priorities and supervises student employees (e.g. provides developmental opportunities, coaches to foster development, evaluates performance); supports professional development and student program activities of CDME in area of expertise; responsible for bringing in sufficient funding to support position and any direct reports; performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

5 years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience and/or training in software development, sensor interfaces, electrical circuit design and wiring, computer networking, and technical writing; extensive experience in a professional multi-disciplinary research environment with experience proposal writing and customer engagement; considerable experience in a R & D setting (i.e., planning and conducting R & D projects/programs in terms of technical and managerial functions)
Desired:
Experience with industrial automation, six-axis robots, C++, Python, ROS, Unity, C#, OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Linux CLI, Git, network administration, Solidworks, AutoCAD Electrical; experience in a supervisory capacity over direct reports or processes is highly desired.
The target hiring range for this job profile is $85,000 - $114,000. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
