We are seeking a dynamic and results driven Membership Director to lead our membership initiatives and drive growth within our global organization. The Membership Director is responsible for developing and executing strategies to grow, retain, and engage the membership of the organization. The role includes managing member services, promoting membership benefits, and enhancing the overall membership experience. This position works closely with leadership to align membership initiatives with the organization’s goals and mission. Position is fully remote with online access to all association documentation and archives as well as team members.
Primary Responsibilities:
Membership Development
Direct and coordinate all aspects of the Association’s membership services, including implementing policies and objectives to meet member needs.
Analyze membership data and prepare reports on organizational membership trends.
Conduct research and assessment of the Association membership and stakeholders.
Develop and implement strategic initiatives to grow membership and improve the member experience.
Develop strategies and programs to increase membership; implement these strategies and programs. Prepare annual budget for assigned program areas including membership, public relations, and membership-related marketing other than conference-related activities.
Ensure data integrity within the association’s database.
Collect and resolve Member Conduct complaints.
Manage the Association Membership booth at The Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) typically held in August and The International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) held in December.
Oversee the awards process for Membership awards: Sandra Slaughter Service Award, Jessica Pye Doctoral Student Service Award, Early Career Award, Mid-Career Award
Promotion and administration of AIS Distinguished Member program, ensuring regular recognition.
Work with third-party survey company to administer biennial membership survey (October/November 2025, 2027, 2029) and follow-up interviews to gain qualitative responses.
SIG/Chapters Community Management
Provide strategic direction to AIS communities (chapters, colleges, special interest groups).
Manage all aspects of AIS Communities online tools and assist Communities and Conferences with technology support.
Coordinate details related to developing, managing, marketing, and evaluating the association membership program related to membership and AIS Communities.
Manage all details related to developing, managing, marketing, and evaluating the association’s communities.
Oversee annual reporting and recognition process.
Coordinate community leader meetings prior to AMCIS and ICIS (and other conferences as necessary).
Manage Member Connect, the Associations Member event held at AMCIS and ICIS conferences.
Develop and implement training programs for community leaders.
Establish and onboard new communities, including strategically pursuing potential growth areas as well as cultivating expressed interests of members.
Lead investigation and process of closing defunct communities.
Provide support in the timeline leading up to the AIS Student Chapter Leadership Conference and competitions (online and in-person)
Produce every-other-month newsletter for Community Leaders.
Member Service & Volunteer Management
Serve as staff liaison to:
Vice President for Membership & Chapters,
Vice President for SIGs and Colleges,
Vice President of DEI,
AVP of Student Chapters,
AVP of SC Global Expansion, and
related committees and task forces.
Requires domestic and international travel to AIS conferences and Council meetings.
Qualifications:
Education level of a bachelor’s degree.
Should hold or be working toward the CAE designation (Certified Association Executive).
Five to ten years of experience in association management or related field.
Ability to handle multiple, concurrent tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Strong attention to detail while keeping the overall goals of a project in mind.
Proven ability to work as part of a team.
Initiative to take on projects independently and foresee priorities and tasks.
Ability to recognize potential problems and develop solutions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in most Microsoft Office applications (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Discipline to successfully work without close supervision.
