Postdoctoral Research Scientist
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a postdoctoral research scientist. The incumbent will work with Dhruv Balwada (website: https://dhruvbalwada.github.io/) on questions relating to ocean macroturbulence - flow at scales of 1-100km, which play an important role in lateral and vertical transport of ocean tracers. The scientist will be expected to work on two complementary areas: (1) using machine learning techniques to combine observations from scattered sensors (e.g., gliders, Argo floats, etc.) with high resolution ocean models, to derive data constrained estimates of high-resolution ocean state; and (2) estimating macroturbulence relevant statistics from in-situ current observations, and using these to
