The School of Science and Engineering at Duquesne University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor position in civil engineering with a start date of August 2025. This is an exciting opportunity because the civil engineering program is new at Duquesne and the new hire will have a unique opportunity to build and reshape the program to train the next generation of engineers for the ever-changing workforce. This position is open to candidates with expertise in the following specialty areas of civil engineering: structural, geotechnical, and transportation. The candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching undergraduate courses, developing a funded research program, advising and mentoring students, and providing service to the department, university, and profession. Candidates from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds are also strongly encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering field by the start date of the employment.
- Ability to teach core civil engineering courses, specifically structural engineering.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Potential for excellence in teaching and scholarly activities.
- Preferred Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Record of teaching excellence
- Experience with ABET accreditation
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
