Description: The Form Finding Lab in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Princeton University invites applications for a post-doctoral or more senior research position to support research on the AI-driven form finding constrained by circular economy principles and biodiversity. The research will be conducted under the direction of Professor Sigrid Adriaenssens in a team with urban planners, biologists and visual artists. Responsibilities will include: - Developing a computational Artificial Intelligence design framework based on urban-mined building stock and structural logic, to shape animal-informed infrastructure; - Designing, constructing and testing demonstrators (2); - Overseeing day-to-day team's research as it relates to project goals and meeting project milestones and go/no-go points; - Giving and contributing to research seminars within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Form Finding Lab; - Presenting at conferences and leading journal publication efforts; - Leading outreach efforts, and developing and writing research proposals. Minimum qualifications: - Doctoral degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering, physics or applied mathematics field; - A strong background in theoretical mechanics and applied mathematics, with an expertise in artificial intelligence and circular economy. Expertise in biology, urban planning, parametric design, and full scale prototyping will be a plus; - Strong project management skills and a very good publication record. The Term of appointment is based on rank. Positions at the postdoctoral rank are for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding; those hired at more senior ranks may have multi-year appointments.
