Position Summary This Postdoctoral Research Associate conducts research in the area of machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and rural medicine. This innovative role will combine the expertise from the nationally and internationally recognized Rural Medical Education Program (RMED), housed in the NRHP, at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford with a mentor and support from CHEMA.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also be affiliated CHEMA and expected to participate in monthly seminars with other postdoctoral research associates in the UIC College of Medicine. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will have a mentoring committee that includes faculty and experts from the fields of rural health AI/ML, family and community medicine, and research design/analysis to support professional development. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also participate in a research mentorship program including writing groups to provide support for grant submissions for all types of awards offered at the Rockford and Chicago campuses.
Duties & Responsibilities
Analyze incoming patient data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can inform clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and implement process improvement initiatives, leveraging data-driven methodologies.
Lead program-wide research initiatives to enhance rural healthcare delivery including data analysis, hypothesis testing, and publication of findings.
Develop interactive dashboards to track program metrics, visualize data, and provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
Collaborate with rural hospital leadership.
Stay updated on the latest advancements in AI/ML and data science in healthcare and apply relevant methodologies and techniques to solve program-related challenges.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in a relevant field such as computer science, data science, statistics, or a related discipline. Must have received a doctorate within the last five years and may only be appointed to this title for five years. Invitations to apply extend to individuals who will have their Ph.D. conferred prior to the commencement of employment.
Strong background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, data analysis, and statistical modeling.
Experience working with healthcare datasets and familiarity with relevant privacy and security regulations.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise using healthcare data from an electronic health record
Communication and writing skills with success in previous academic research
