Position Summary:
The Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Department of Teaching & Special Education at Central Michigan University invites applications for a fixed-term faculty position beginning in August 2024. This position is for a one-year fixed-term appointment, with a possibility of renewal.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate courses as assigned by the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Teaching & Special Education. Lecturers are required to teach 12 credits per semester. Successful applicants will be expected to teach 6 credits in Computer Science and 6 credits in Teaching & Special Education per semester.
Teach introductory computer science programming courses for majors and non-majors and more advanced courses as per expertise, experience, and credentials. Examples of courses involve web development, Java, Python and bridge courses for non-traditional students to enter the MS Computer Science program. The potential to teach courses in AI, ML, algorithms and/or databases are desirable.
Teach courses in the educator preparation program in the areas of: exploring education and the teaching profession; reaching and teaching diverse learners; designing learning environments; developing effective teaching practices; analyzing teaching to improve student learning; and elementary and secondary methods. The candidate must be eligible for membership in CMUs Educator Preparation Program, which requires experience in - as well as continuing scholarship and service related to - PK-12 education.
Prepare classes, syllabi, and coursework; update courses for emerging technologies; provide instruction during class time; help students outside of class; provide feedback to students; provide student grades.
Attend regular, relevant committee meetings; support committee work; engage in assessment of learning activities; help develop and promote CMUs course offerings in both departments; and strengthen partnerships on and off campus.
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in computer science and/or education, with experience in computer science and/or education.
Demonstrated a commitment to excellence in teaching.
Eligibility for membership in CMUs Educator Preparation Program.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications:
A terminal degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline with education experience is strongly preferred. A PhD is required to teach masters level courses.
The potential to teach courses in AI, ML, algorithms and/or databases are desirable.
Preference will be given to those applicants who are able to teach computer science discipline content as well as education pedagogy and assessment, and can bridge the divide between these two programs.
