The School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track academic faculty position within the area of solid and structural mechanics at the rank of Assistant Professor.
This position is expected to establish a research program exploring the scientific fundamentals in solid and structural mechanics. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
Multifunctional materials and structures, such as flexible, programmable, or reconfigurable materials or structures and structures with novel physical properties;
Physics-informed machine learning for computational multi-physics modeling and analysis; and
Metallic and/or composite structures, including those relevant to aerospace engineering, environmental remediation, and clean energy storage.
An established and thriving track record of federal and industry funding and partnerships in the school will support the position to grow an enterprise around their areas of research.
We are especially interested in candidates who have an interest in maximizing research impact through commercialization, taking advantage of OSU's resources available through the OSU Advanced Technologies and Manufacturing Institute (ATAMI) and the OSU Advantage Accelerator.
Oregon State offers BS, MS, MEng, and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering including an online BS in Mechanical Engineering. The program has approximately 1500 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. The College of Engineering has over 170 faculty, and the mechanical engineering program includes over 40 permanent members along with instructional faculty. Being one of the largest programs at OSU enables us to sustain a vigorous and far-reaching research enterprise. Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension positions and MLS for Library positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or other setting, and develop a research program in the academic discipline/unit.
Requirements :
Earned a PhD in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, applied mathematics, computational science and engineering, or other relevant discipline in engineering prior to the position start date.
Demonstrated record of research in solid and structural mechanics
Demonstrated potential for or track record of securing externally competitive research funding
Demonstrated skills or potential to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses
Ability to communicate mechanical engineering concepts to a technical and general audience
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing equity, diversity, inclusion
