We are seeking a Sr. Analyst, Data and Enrollment Planning, Medicine (SOM) is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, integration, and accessibility of resources that enable effective and reliable data analytics and business intelligence. The Senior Analystis responsible for leading the development and delivery of reports, and other analytical solutions used by senior leadership to inform admissions and financial aid strategy and to drive enrollment management decisions and efforts in the SOM at Johns Hopkins University.
Serves as a core member of the SOM?s Enrollment Management leadership team, providing sophisticated data analysis to inform strategic planning and analyze the effectiveness of initiatives through data-driven research. Review and understand large sets of historical data while being able to highlight relevant trends and patterns. Must be able to rapidly understand data schemas and layouts. Must be able to perform advanced data extraction and leverage data analytics expertise to identify and understand organizational needs and contribute to the formation and execution of strategy.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Participate as a member of SOM?s Enrollment Management core management team representing and responsible for creating an integrated, data-driven environment for the Vice Dean of Education in the School of Medicine and the Vice Provost for Admissions and Financial Aid in the central university.
Develop and execute strategies to provide timely data and analyses concerning the strategic initiatives of SOM Enrollment Management.
Create data analysis tools to be used by SOM Deans and leaders in admissions and financial aid as well as automated data delivery tools for the office and other university constituents such as the President, Provost, SVP of Finance and Administration, JHU central Finance, SOM Business Office, etc.
Introduce, manage, and maintain predictive enrollment models to establish more accurate and precise enrollment outcomes, modeling, and other KPIs.
Use predictive modeling to analyze the impact of changes in university polices and/or procedures on enrollment.
Establish and build relationships with SOM Office of Assessment & Evaluation Precision Education team to optimize the collection, management, and coordination of admissions, financial aid, and enrollment data to enhance the progression of data-informed progression of analytics. Establish reports and feedback loops to refine existing processes.
Help leverage machine learning algorithms, analytics, and AI related elements to ensure a more data-informed admissions process that strives to minimize bias while increasing fairness and equity for all applicants.
Design, develop, and maintain dashboards for the SOM enrollment team. Leverage existing infrastructure to help illustrate data with the Director of Admissions and Director of Financial Aid as well as document other key predictive enrollment KPIs.
Work with the Director of Admissions and Director of Financial Aid to integrate the admissions and financial aid reporting environments to support a cohesive enrollment division.
Report and recommend key findings and outcomes to inform strategic planning from a data analysis perspective.
Apply quantitative expertise to admissions and financial aid issues. Leverage qualitative data to add context to reports and efforts to continuously improve existing events and programs.
Foster collaboration across departments/organizations to ensure the flow of data required for analysis and to identify new opportunities.
Oversee the architecture and management of local data warehouse, including optimizing its design, ensuring data integrity, archiving data, and incorporating new data elements. Ensure all data is confidentially and securely stored across university infrastructure.
Diagnose system and data issues in the admissions, financial aid, and student information system data warehouses.
Obtain marketing and communication data via Slate CRM to explore prospect, applicant, and student engagement. Identify patterns, analysis, and outcomes.
Coordinate testing of corrections and introduce resolutions to issues.
Partner with central IT to help design and develop reporting infrastructure to enhance robust data warehouse environment.
Develop data ownership policies, procedures, and best practices.
Coordinate and produce reports and surveys concerning admissions and financial aid for external organizations and membership groups.
Responsible for high-level data analysis and providing strategic input based on analytic findings.
Establish and maintain the infrastructure related to accurate data analysis such as data tools and data integrity procedures.
Responsible for overseeing the proper use of data and technology and creating data-driven, analytical business processes and procedures.
Design data schema to facilitate analyses, e.g., in support of prospect data.
Manage enrollment reporting efforts to internal and external entities to assure data quality and integrity.
Develop and execute a strategy for ingesting data from a variety of third-party sources, then transforming and leveraging it for analytical use.
Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
Present senior leadership with key findings in a non-technical manner to inform admissions and financial aid strategy and drive marketing efforts.
Organize material and complete assignments according to established standards regarding clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Familiarity with admissions and financial aid in a higher education setting.
Knowledge of SQL, HTML, JavaScript, PHP, VB, Flash, and ASP.
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated understanding of developing and tuning complex queries, stored procedures, and user-defined functions using T-SQL.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, JIRA, Confluence, VSS (or equivalent code change control applications), SCT SunGard Matrix, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, bulk email applications, Google Analytics.
Comprehensive knowledge of key analytics and reporting software, including SQL reporting tools, Microsoft Excel, and Tableau (or other data presentation software).
Considerable experience with other software and workplace collaboration products, including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, and PowerPoint), and Zoom.
Familiarity with Customer Relations Management (CRM) software suites and document imaging/document management applications.
Knowledge of database structures and their capabilities and limitations.
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated understanding of ETL or other data processing techniques, preferably using SSIS.
Must possess skills to convey complex ideas to non-technical audiences. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to convey information to faculty, staff, and University officials.
Self-motivated, able to work effectively independently and cooperatively, and has had proven success working as a team member.
Advanced knowledge of techniques to automate report generation and delivery.
Knowledge of current trends and technologies used in data science.
This position is required to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects, deadlines, and responsibilities requiring a strong work ethic that stresses delivery of sound, accurate data.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor?s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Finance/Accounting/Economics, Computer Science, or related discipline.
Five years related experience.
Experience automating report generation using VBA or other comparable programming.
Experience presenting key findings in a non-technical manner to clients and senior leadership.
Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Master?s Degree in a related discipline.
Three years of work experience preferably within an academic or academic medicine environment.
Formal knowledge of statistics is desirable.
Strong proficiency with Tableau and PowerBI.
Experience with statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, R preferred.
Desire to leverage qualitative analysis into the enrollment process via NVivo or MAXQDA.
