Location: Washington, DC Open Date: Apr 03, 2024 Deadline:
Description The Massive Data Institute (MDI) and the McCourt School of Public Policy seek a postdoctoral fellow with research interests at the intersection of social media, generative AI, computational methods, and politics. As a postdoc, you will work solely on research, focusing on the prevalence and effects of generative AI on the 2024 US elections. We expect this position to render multiple co-authoring publications. We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in Information Science, Computer Science, Political Science, or a related social science field.
This position will encompass only research.
Research
The Postdoc Fellow is expected to engage only in research. The postdoc will be part of a project led by Professor Lisa Singh (Computer Science & McCourt School of Public Policy), Tiago Ventura (McCourt School of Public Policy), and Leticia Bode (Communication, Culture, and Technology) titled Generative AI, Humanness, and Misinformation in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. The project will focus on assessing 1) the veracity and 2) the humanness of election-related content shared on various social media platforms. The postdoc is expected to provide support for large-scale data collection from social media platforms, develop detection models to identify AI-produced misinformation, and design experiments to assess the humanness of election-related content spread on social media. The postdoc should be knowledgeable about natural language processing, recent developments in generative AI models, and machine learning pipelines.
The Massive Data Institute
The Massive Data Institute is an interdisciplinary center focusing on key public policy and analytic issues involving high-dimensional data. It is the expectation that its postdoctoral fellows will assist in building relationships across disciplines and departments within the University. Further, MDI has budding partnerships with numerous external agencies and the fellows will be involved in conversations and interactions with potential partners. 1 of 2
