JOB SUMMARY

The Geospatial Data Scientist provides advanced geospatial data collection, mapping, and analytics support. This position is responsible for configuring Web Geospatial Information Systems (WebGlS)/GlS Server solutions, digital image processing, remote sensing analytics, implementing workflows, creating and provisioning data content, collecting data using global positioning systems (GPS), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and other modern technologies. This position also provide GIS support to faculty and students within the Taylor Geospatial Institute's (TGI) partnering institutions. Additionally, the Geospatial Data Scientist may also participate in larger project teams, providing support in the conception, construction, implementation and testing of GIS databases, applications, and production systems.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES

• Conducts spatial analysis with location aware big data

• Deploys webGIS services and online GIS applications

• Uses cloud services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure or Google Cloud Platform to support computing

• Performs basic UAV data collection and remote sensing data analysis

• Provide support with various data visualization and analysis

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Strong open-source programming skills

• Strong understanding of remote sensing and digital image processing

• Knowledge of photogrammetry

• Knowledge GIS server design and implementation

• Knowledge of WebGIS and online mapping

• Knowledge of cloud computing (Amazon SageMaker, GEE, Microsoft Azure)

• Knowledge of AI/ML and python coding

• Knowledge of geovisualization and modeling

• Knowledge of GPS and UAV data collection

• Social media data analysis

• Verbal and written communication skills, including presentations

• Strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork and collaboration

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in geospatial science, geography, earth science, computer science, or technology

• Three (3) years of related work experience

• Previous experience with writing production code in Python and scaling the code with cloud computing resources (e.g., AWS)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Masters degree in geospatial science, geography, earth science, computer science, or technology

• Previous experience with open-source programming

• Previous experience in UAV data collection, photogrammetry, open-source programming, machine learning, artificial intelligence, multi-sensor processing and fusion, visualization, remote sensing, or geospatial analysis
