Therefore, we are seeking an experienced CISO, a security expert who understands the challenges and complexities of securing information technology systems that utilize emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML). The CISO will lead the development, implementation, and management of our organization information security program and will play a critical role in protecting our organization sensitive data and critical infrastructure from cyber threats and other security risks.

Typical Tasks:

• Develop, implement, and maintain the Cary's information security policies, procedures, and guidelines that address the security implications of emerging technologies.
• Provide leadership and direction for the organization's security program and oversee security operations.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive security awareness and training program for municipal employees that includes training on emerging technologies.
• Work with various departments to ensure the security of municipal systems and data, including overseeing security assessments and penetration testing emerging technologies such as IoT and AI.
• Monitor and respond to security incidents and threats, including conducting incident response investigations and recommending remediation actions.
• Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including vendors, partners, and regulatory bodies.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging threats and security technologies and recommend appropriate actions to ensure the security of municipal systems and data.
• Provide regular reports and updates to senior leadership on the status of the municipal security program and any security incidents or risks.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements related to information security.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing information security policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Strong understanding of security frameworks such as NIST, ISO, and CIS.
• Experience with security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, endpoint security, and vulnerability management, with an understanding of how these technologies apply to IoT, AI, and ML
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working in a municipal or government environment is preferred.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Security and extensive progressive experience in Information Security.  

Relevant certification such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or CompTIA Security+ is preferred

Minimum of 10 years of experience in leading and managing in Information Security. 

Physical Requirements:

Work in this class is generally inside and sedentary, however frequent movement and lifting of moderately heavy items is required in the process of moving, installing, and repairing equipment. An employee must have such visual acuity as to be able to read and write handwritten and typewritten material and to install/repair equipment. Work requires looking at a computer screen for long periods of time. An employee in this class must be able to talk and hear in order to be able to respond to the public and other employees.

Special Requirements:

Requires a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
