Department Description

The Academic Information Systems department is a service and support unit. The business purpose of the department is to provide services and support to the academic departments of the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and to the 'hospital' customers. The AIS department has four primary service and support domains: Client Support, Audio/Visual Support, Web Application development, and DevOps/System Administration.

Responsibilities
This position reports directly to the Supervisor of Application Development. This position will analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints, liaise with middleware and developers. Provides guidance, mentoring, and other assistance. Ensure the development and adherence to coding standards. Create and manage team and individual goals and provide regular feedback for development team members

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and or equivalent experience/training
  
• Extensive and demonstrated programming experience using Java and JavaScript, preferably using Spring Boot and Angular.
• 3+ years of experience using Spring MVC, Spring WebFlux and/or JAX-RS
• 3+ years of experience using JPA
• 3+ years of experience using Angular
• 3+ years of experience using Maven
• 3+ years of experience using Java 8 and above
• 3+ years of experience using RxJS 6 and above
• Experience using Eclipse or similar IDE
• Must be able to work independently with little direction
• Must be able to provide work estimates and deliver maintainable projects on schedule
• Must possess excellent testing, debugging and problem solving skills
• Expected to adapt to a dynamic and collaborative work environment and make independent decisions
• Advanced technical skills and understanding of a myriad of technology used in web application development
• Ability to integrate new and existing applications
• Ability to re-factor existing applications

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with JUnit, TestNG or others
• Experience with Cypress
• Experience with Docker
• Experience with Node.Js
• Experience with CSS
• Experience with SLF4J
• Experience with web containers such as Tomcat, JBoss, and Glassfish
• Experience using relational databases such as MySQL, MS SQL
• Experience supporting legacy JEE applications (including JSF)
• Experience with build tools such as Ant, Maven
• Writing functional and detailed technical specifications for application code developed
• Ability to work in a team environment using Agile XP practices and principles
• Ability to manage and prioritize project requirements
• Ability to translate user stories into technical requirements
• Ability to propose creative technical solutions in a team environment
• Ability to interact with non-technical business peers
• Experience working in a University environment with faculty clients is essential
• Experience creating and maintaining support application development documentation
• Proactively participate in research and evaluation of emerging application development tools and technology
• Assist in making purchase recommendations
